Editorial Process
The Author should ascertain that the manuscript is sent to one journal at a time. Manuscript sent to other journal simultaneously with IJMSPH will not be reviewed. The manuscript should be original work of authors and correspondence author will act as guarantor.

The Editors-in-Chief in consultation with the Managing Editor, Section Editors and Advisory Board Members will review all submitted manuscripts initially. Manuscripts with insufficient originality, serious scientific and technical flaws, or lack of significant message will be rejected. All manuscripts received will be duly acknowledged.

In majority of the cases, peer reviewing is done by the editorial board members but in some cases article is also sent to two or more peer reviewers for comments. Chief Editor will take final decision regarding the suitability of manuscript for publication. The contributors will be informed about the reviewers' comments and acceptance/rejection of manuscript. On an average, the submission to first decision period will be around 30 days. Statistical editors may be consulted as per the discretion of the Editor-in Chief and on advice from Section Editor/ Reviewers.

Articles accepted by peer reviewers should be a copy edited for grammar, punctuation, print style, and format. At this stage the Managing and Technical Editors will also do a Plagiarism Check. (IJMSPH is strictly against plagiarisms. Please read our Plagiarism Policy). Page proofs will be sent to the corresponding author, just before the publication of article in the journal, which has to be returned within three days. Correction received after that period may not be included.

The contributor may (not mandatory) provide names of two qualified reviewers who has experience in the subject of the submitted manuscript, but who are not affiliated with the same institutes as the contributor/s. As a routine we will not send the manuscript to that particular reviewer . It is kept in database for review of future articles.

Plagiarism Policy

By submission to IJMSPH entails that authors automatically attest that, none of the parts of manuscripts is plagiarized from any other source. Proper reference should be provided whenever anything is extracted from a source. Technical editors use Plagiarism detection tools/ softwares to ensure the originality of the article. 

If any article is proved to be plagiarized, IJMSPH committee would take immediate and strict actions against the authors ranging from rejection of the manuscript to preclusion of the authors from any future publication in the journal.  For serious fraud or plagiarism the journal may also report to the authors/s affiliating institution.

Commitment to Publish Negative Study

Being committed to the highest level of medical publication IJMSPH is in obligation to Publish Negative Studies as set by ICJME. Any study of an important topic, relevant to our readers, is seriously taken into consideration for publication, provided the results for the primary or any additional outcome are statistically significant. Authors will be encouraged to submit such articles to our journal.

Policy on Communication on the General Media (based on COPE and ICJME guidelines)

Pre-Publication release of studies when detected by IJMSPH journal will be rejected summarily. However the appropriate authorities responsible for public health will decide whether to disseminate information to physicians and the media in advance, incase if important clinical implications have to be released even before the journal is published. If the author and the appropriate authorities wish to have a manuscript considered by IJMSPH, the Editor-in-chief should be informed before any public release when the policy of limiting prepublication publicity is waived clear and urgently important clinical implications for the public’s health that the news must be released before full publication in a journal.

If the author/journalist wishes to use the article journal for general media, explicit permission from the Editor-in Chief should be taken. Such a release should coincide with its publication online or in print. IJMSPH follows the ICJME policy on this

Ethics

When reporting experiments on human subjects, IJMSPH mandatorily needs a declaration stating whether the procedures followed were in accordance with the ethical standards as laid by the ICMR-Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research on Human Participants(Available at: http://icmr.nic.in/ethical_guidelines.pdf  )/ its equivalent (example Helsinki Declaration,2000) were followed or not. For Studies related to Stem Cell research therapy it should be in accordance with ICMR Guidelines for Stem Cell Research and Therapy (Available at: http://icmr.nic.in/stem_cell/stem_cell_guidelines.pdf ). When reporting experiments on Animals CPCSEA Available at: http://envfor.nic.in/divisions/awd/cpcsea_laboratory.pdf or its equivalent is to be followed.

Authors should mention about the ethical principles they followed during conduction of research and preparation of the manuscript. Manuscripts related to human subjects should mention about Informed consent, Permission from Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC). In the manuscript involving children more than 7 years, information related to “Assent” should also be mentioned.

Authorship Criteria

Each author should contribute substantially in each of the areas mentioned below. Gifted and Ghost authorship will not be tolerated.

1. Concept and design of the study or acquisition, analysis and interpretation of data.
2. Drafting and revising the manuscript for important intellectual content.
3. Final approval for the version which is going to be published.
4. Author should be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Contribution of each author should be mentioned in the first page/title page of the manuscript.

Categories of manuscripts

Preparation of Manuscript

All manuscripts should be prepared according to the guidelines given of “Uniform requirements for Manuscripts submitted to Biomedical Journals” given by “International Committee of Medical Journals Editors”. Read this article carefully before preparing the manuscript.

Various guidelines are given for reporting of research. Authors can take the help of these guidelines during writing the manuscript.

Original Article

This may include intervention studies, outcome studies, experimental designs, clinical trials, clinical studies, case control studies, cohort studies, cross sectional surveys etc. Original article should be subdivided into –

2.Key Words
3.Introduction
4.Materials and Methods
5.Statistics
6.Result
7.Discussion
8.Conclusion
9.References
10.Tables and Figures

Abstract

In the case of original article, abstract should be structured. It should be divided into Background, Aims and Objectives, Study Design, Setting, Materials and Methods, Statistics, Results and Conclusion. All results should be mentioned in the abstract. There should not be any selective reporting of results in abstract.

Key Words

3 to 5 key words on the basis of Medical Subjects Heading (MeSH) of “Index Medicus” should be given.

Introduction

It should start with the background information of the research topic and should clearly mention purpose and rationale of doing the study. Aims and objective should be clearly mentioned in the introduction.

Materials and Methods

How the study was done should be explained in sufficient detail so that some other researcher can replicate the same study. How the subjects were selected? How the intervention was allocated? How blinding was done? How the endpoints were measured? etc should be given in sufficient detail. Appropriate reference to some standard technique should be given. If experimental procedure is long then it can be given as appendix. Help of suitable guidelines mentioned above should be taken during writing the manuscript. Ethics should be the part of this section.

Statistics

Sufficient information regarding the statistics used should be given. Description of data should be given in standard form like “Mean (SD)”, “Median”, “Range” or “Frequencies (Percentages)”. “Mean ± SEM” should not be used. Statistical tests should be mentioned in detail including assumptions for particular test, exact p value and confidence interval. Statistical software, if used, should be mentioned with version. Results

There must not be any overlap between results shown in table and results written in text. Results should appear in logical sequence i.e. most important results should be written first. Absolute value should be written with method of description like percentages, mean, median etc.

Discussion

Discussion should start with summary of main results. All results should be interpreted and compared with existing knowledge of the subject. Reasons for the findings should be discussed. Implication of results obtained should be discussed in detail. Limitations of the study should also be mentioned.

Conclusion

Main findings of the study should be written in the conclusion. A box should be added just after the conclusion mentioning what was already known before the study and what information this study adds to the existing knowledge.

Short Communication

Brief study or short report will be accepted under short communication.

Research Letter, Letter to the Editor and Correspondence

Short observations based on hard data will be considered in research letter section. Those who want to comment on previously published article should not send comments in research letter section. They should write it as letter to the editor. Editorial board of journal has decided to publish all letters to the editor which come to the journal as a comment on previously published articles. We understand that peer review has some drawbacks and sometimes poor quality article survived through peer review gets published. So letter to the editor serves as a post publication peer review and helps evidence based medicine. Those manuscripts which do not fall into research letter or letter to the editor can be submitted as correspondence. 

Reviews, Commentaries and Education Forum

IJMSPH will publish reviews based on hard data written by scientist having enough experience in the relevant field. We encourage systematic reviews, narrative reviews published in educational forum. We invite commentaries from scientists and academicians on some important issues related to the field of physiology, pharmacy, pharmacology, medical education, ethics and pharmaceutical advertisements etc. Contributors should communicate with the editor regarding the exact format of article in these categories as format is flexible and depends on the topic and area of interest.

Other manuscripts like Drug review, ADR report, Research methodology articles, Ethics section, News, Conference report, Book reviews can be sent after consultation with editor about the format.

References

References should be written in order of their appearance in the text. References should be identified in text, table and legend in “Arabic numerical” as “superscript” in “square bracket”. For the name of journal, standard journal abbreviation (according to index medicus, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=journals&Cmd=DetailsSearch&Term=currentlyindexed[All]) should be used. For non indexed journal, full name of the journal should be used. Publication Charges

 

Processing charge - No processing charge

Publication charge (For DOI no., Conversion of XML file, submission system and website and online publication, typesetting and copy editing by professional editors and courier charge) is 3000 Rs for Indian author and 150 dollars (USD) for authors of countries other than India.  Publication charge for hard copy will be extra. Authors are requested to send publication charge directly to publishers account after formal acceptance letter received. Publication charge can be decreased or even waived off for genuine reasons.

Letter to editor in response to some published studies in journal will be published free of charge. Plagiarized article will be rejected and publication fee will not be refunded.
